2017 STATE STREET ART FAIR

JULY 20 - JULY 23

THURS - SATURDAY
10am - 9pm

Sunday
noon - 6pm

For 50 years, the State Street Art Fair has been The District's premier event.  The Fair is a nationally recognized and award-winning art fair that combines the talents of 300 artists along the vibrant streets of Ann Arbor’s downtown. The retail climate explodes with a host of merchant displays and food of all kinds as outdoor shoppers search for sales or relax while enjoying a beverage or meal amid the throngs of artist displays.

The State Street District welcomes and opens its streets to artists each year. The show combines both highly contemporary works alongside very traditional crafts including glass, painting, ceramics, photography, jewelry, fiber, wood and more. The standards set for acceptance reflect in the artists’ dedication to excellence and quality. A jury of both practicing artists and other arts professionals has the task of screening prospective exhibitors, always looking for fresh and innovative approaches as well as stunning examples of age-old techniques.

Cover artist book signing

Exciting news - 'Dig If You Will The Picture' (the book showcasing my Prince portrait on the cover) is being released next week! To celebrate, the downtown Love From Minneapolis store is hosting a book signing event. Not only will they have copies of the books available for sale, but also prints, pint glasses and a few other awesome products that you can get signed by me during the event!

When: Next Thursday, April 20th from 3pm-6pm
Where: 505 Nicollet Mall Suite 100, Minneapolis MN 55402

About the book:
A unique and kaleidoscopic look into the life, legacy, and electricity of the pop legend Prince and his wide ranging impact on our culture.

Here, with the passion of an obsessive fan and the skills of a critic, journalist, and novelist, he mines his encyclopedic knowledge of Prince’s music to tell both his story and the story of the paradigm-shifting ideas that he communicated to his millions of fans around the world. Greenman's take on Prince is the autobiography of a generation and its ideas. Asking a series of questions―not only “Who was Prince?” but “Who wasn’t he?” and “Who are we?”―Dig if You Will the Picture is a fitting tribute to an extraordinary talent.

I Am Series - General viewing

Dates:   Saturday and Sunday, April 1 & 2 - 11am-6pm

While generating much interest across the US with her body of work to date, Abbott is upping the ante with her next series of work under the title "I Am".  Known for her iconic portraits, including her rendition of local legend Prince, this series will turn the artists gaze inward, focusing on Abbott's journey as an artist since arriving in the US from Australia four years ago.  With pieces included in the series titled "I Am Art", "I Am Woman" and "I Am Erotic", expect to see rich commentary of the social, political and cultural influences embedded within these highly evocative themes.  As is her signature, Abbott's use of thousands of images gathered through crowd sourcing, research and skullduggery, goes beyond any of her existing works to date.

With the help of local producer, Sunshine, UX Specialist, Ananda Bates, and renowned gastronomist, Abbott has created a unique 4-dimensional experience.  Each artwork will be paired with interactive maps, time-lapse videos, custom music sound tracks, and a delectable flavor sure to sensually immersed the viewer.
