MN Original Launch Party

Thursday, January 14th - what an amazing night!

The cheese platters were enticing, the martini bar was hard to go past, art covered every wall of the 3rd floor atrium, and the crowd was fabulous!  The night went off without a hitch, and it was great to see so many people out in the cold Minnesotan weather.

The highlight of the night was the premiere showing of the MN Original segment, which was lead by a few words from the artist, myself, and a speech read out by dad from Ashleigh Rowe, Executive Producer, MN Original.  Here are a few of the words shared:

"MN Original is proud of our collaboration with our Lowertown neighbor, Kristi Abbott!
We have been following Kristi and her rich, colorful work for some time. Last June, I saw Kristi at the Edina Art Fair. As the featured artist at the festival that draws more than 200,000 visitors each year, Minnesota Monthly had written that Kristi's pinup-inspired collages  “evoke a sense of glamour and sensuality.”
Kristi lit up the screen in all the promotional television clips I saw, too. Her spirit and work are both so electric and even more so in person.....
..... Kristi, we hope that you, your friends and clients, and new admirers of your work.. who will discover you as a result of your appearance on MN Original, will inspire future collaborations with you."

Thank you again to everyone who came out and made it such a fabulous night!  I look forward to seeing you all again soon - maybe at the Spring St. Paul Art Crawl?

Cheers,

Kristi

Photo Journal - Road trip Oct/Nov 2015

Freshly returned from the South-West I've had just enough time to dust myself off, somewhat unpack my camper, catch up on some much needed sleep and spend some needed down time with my boyfriend and dog.  What an amazing, exhausting, exciting, scary and inspiring trip!

Rather than go into all of the details, I'll share with you some of the highlights from the trip in pictures.  Each picture below has details, that when clicked on, will tell you a bit about the photo, where it was taken and when.

I will be heading back down that way in March/April 2016 for some more shows throughout Texas.  I wonder what adventures that trip will hold?!

Before I start packing for that one, let me thank the great people I met along the way for providing such interesting conversations, helping me out in moments of need, inspiring me, educating me, and travelling with me.

It was a great trip and I'm sure it will be remembered as a defining one in my career.

Oh, and if you are travelling to any of these cities and want to know of a good place to stay, something to see or a good place to eat, let me know and I'll see what I can do to help!

Cheers,

Kristi

Touch down in the USA a success!

With touch down taking place on Wednesday, it was a quick turn around to get ready for the Stillwater Fall Colors Art Festival taking place on the weekend.  Thanks to the help from my wonderful boyfriend and my trusty Uhaul rental company, all was ready to rock and roll and set up by Friday afternoon.

The weather was beautiful and the scenery at the show was spectacular.  This time of year is great with the crisp mornings and evenings and warmer days.

While this is a smaller show with approximately 64 artists, the quality is great with a selection of photographers, potters, jewelry designers and visual artists.  Jazz music was played all weekend by local groups and helped compliment the laid back atmosphere.

A few hours into the show I was given the most wonderful surprise - I was awarded 'Best in Show'!  This was a huge compliment!  I accepted the blue ribbon and award money with pride and still have the blue ribbon hanging in my studio now.  What a way to make my entry back into the US :)

Now its time to get ready for Art Crawl taking place this Friday through Sunday!!  No rest for the wicked....

One week left in the land down under....

Ken Done's artwork

Well, it has been an amazing trip, and time has flown by over the last 4 weeks!  I've seen the birth of my first little niece, Willow Elinor Graham, been in hospital twice with my mum (who luckily is recovering very nicely after a scare with bladder cancer), caught up with friends and family, visited the Archibald Exhibition at the NSW Gallery, and run the made by kristi - Australia stall at The Rocks Markets 3 times.  With only 7 days to go it's time to pack in those last few must dos......

Things to do before I leave:

1. Meet with Australian legendary artist, Ken Done.  As a little girl I was inspired by Done and his big, bold and beautiful paintings.  He is a living example of a successful full-time artist, having held over 50 solo exhibitions, gracing magazine covers and cat walks and running a great gallery in the heart of Sydney.

DONE!  Met Ken today and talked about art, Australia and life as an artist.  Very inspiring!!  Apparently he is a big fan of my red hair and thinks I should do a series of red haired ladies.  I like it - watch this space!

Excited!  At Done's gallery entry

2. Run my last Rocks Markets.  With one  more weekend to go I'm keen to use it selling my work and meeting great people down at the famous Sydney Rocks markets!  Open on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-5pm it's a great way to spend some time over the weekend.  I've also created some special pieces exclusively for the Rocks - 'Humpty in the Harbour' and 'Jack and Jill frolic in the bay'. Check them out below.

That's it!  Seems easy enough.  Now it's time to do some printing and get ready for the weekend ahead.

Ciao for now!

Kristi

Australia - here I come!!

TWO DAYS TO GO... until my bags are packed and I'm going away... to Australia for 5 weeks!  And look who I'll be taking with me.... Mick Dundee and Ned Kelly - two rather notorious Aussie icons that I've just completed and added to my Pop Icon Series.

The originals and prints will be available for sale throughout the 5 weeks at made by kristi - Australi at the Rocks Markets.

Dundee celebrates modern Australia, with hidden imagery of the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Bondi Beach and of course, Vegemite - along with many other iconic pics!

Kelly is a look back at the history of Australia and how this great country came to be - showing references from Captain Cook, the First Fleet, our early settlers and explores, through to the first inhabitants of the land, the aboriginals.

Be sure to swing by the markets to check them out - http://www.therocks.com/things-to-do/the-rocks-markets.aspx
